2014-2015 Giving Season
CAMACC Crusaders 2014-2015 Giving Season
For the 2014-15 giving season – the CAMACC Crusaders are lending their efforts to helping families cope with Multiple sclerosis (MS).
In a word: family. This year, the daughter of one of CAMACC’s team was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis. Her name is Danielle, and she is just 18. The disease is progressing in what the doctors call an aggressive manner – Danielle already has to rely on a wheelchair to get around. Danielle is fighting hard, but it’s a struggle, and an expensive one for her family.
The CAMACC Crusaders want to help Danielle and others in our community with their struggle against MS, and to help those who are working on a cure for this disease. We want to kick MS in the ass, for good.
What is MS?
Multiple sclerosis is thought to be an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord). The disease attacks myelin, the protective covering of the nerves, causing inflammation and often damaging the myelin. Myelin is necessary for the transmission of nerve impulses through nerve fibres. If damage to myelin is slight, nerve impulses travel with minor interruptions; however, if damage is heavy and if scar tissue replaces the myelin, nerve impulses may be completely disrupted, and the nerve fibres themselves can be damaged. MS can cause symptoms such as extreme fatigue, lack of coordination, weakness, tingling, impaired sensation, vision problems, bladder problems, cognitive impairment and mood changes.
North America has one of the highest rates of MS in the world. The MS Society of Canada says the rate of MS in this country could be as high as 240 per 100,000 people. This is not acceptable.
What are we doing?
CAMACC has set our target fundraising goal for the 2014-2015 Giving Season at $10,000.
Each of our offices will be fundraising to fight MS and support the people who are struggling with the disease. We will be collecting cash donations and deductions from staff paychecks and banked hours; selling raffle ticket; conducting bottle drives and other activities – anything we can think of, like the Muck MS race!
Please consider donating directly to the cause, via YouCaring. A $40 (or more!) donation gets you a limited edition CAMACC Crusaders T-shirt!
Stay tuned for more information on the specifics!
We may not be able to fix every problem, but we can try, and not let our brothers and sisters go gently into that good night.
2014-2015 Giving Season Results
We’re so pleased to let everyone know that the efforts of the Crusaders – and our many friends, like YOU! – raised more than our goal of $10,000! We’re equally pleased to say that CAMACC Systems matched the fundraising of the Crusaders, bringing the total to $23,000!!!
A cheque was presented Saturday, December 13, 2014 to the family we’re helping with their battle against MS. THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this possible!
And here’s a nice article from the Times Colonist newspaper summarizing our season of fundraising.
Please help us make a difference.
