The CAMACC Crusaders

CAMACC Crusaders 2015-2016 Giving Season

Lean on me when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need somebody to lean on
– Bill Withers, Lean on Me

Most people in our community are doing just fine – most of the time. But you never know what’s around the corner, and sometimes we all need a helping hand.

That’s what the CAMACC Crusaders is all about: community support. Every year CAMACC staff across North America act on numerous community needs, including local food bank support, fundraising for cancer research, and – for the 2015-16 giving season – we’re fighting diabetes by fundraising for research, education and family support.

Why Diabetes?

In a word: family. This year, the son of one of CAMACC’s team was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. His name is Justin, and he is just 13. The disease means a complete lifestyle change for Justin, his dad and mom, and his younger brother. They have an uphill climb ahead of them as they learn about managing the disease while living life to the fullest.

The CAMACC Crusaders want to help Justin and others in our community with their struggle against diabetes, and to help those who are working on a cure for this disease. We want to kick diabetes in the ass, for good.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic, often debilitating and sometimes fatal disease, in which the body either cannot produce insulin or cannot properly use the insulin it produces. Insulin is a hormone that controls the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. Diabetes leads to high blood sugar levels, which can damage organs, blood vessels and nerves. The body needs insulin to use sugar as an energy source. Learn more at: http://www.diabetes.ca/about-diabetes/types-of-diabetes#sthash.P1JFWLhT.dpuf

Did you know that there are more than 10 million Canadians living with diabetes or prediabetes today? With more than 20 Canadians being newly-diagnosed with the disease every hour of every day, chances are that diabetes affects you or someone you know. This is not acceptable.

What are we doing?

CAMACC has set our target fundraising goal for the 2015-2016 Giving Season at $5,000.

Each of our offices will be fundraising to fight diabetes and support the people who are struggling with the disease. We will be collecting cash donations and deductions from staff paychecks and banked hours; selling raffle tickets; conducting bottle drives and other activities – anything we can think of!

Online donations

Please consider donating directly to the cause, via YouCaring. A $40 (or more!) donation gets you a limited edition CAMACC Crusaders T-shirt!

Stay tuned for more information on the specifics!

We may not be able to fix every problem, but we can try, and not let our brothers and sisters go gently into that good night.

Please help us make a difference.

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
